im looking for a diagram to build a 6 finger native american flute. and not to have to pay to find out.
Try here http://www.flutemaking.com/ and I am still looking, seems most want to charge these days. I have 7 flutes, I play. Have tried making one a couple of times and gave up. So now I just enjoy the ones I have and play them, oh by the way each flute is from a differant nation (tribes)
You can also try making a PVC flute first http://www.nativeaccess.com/ancestral/flute-adv.html
Also you can buy kits.

I know they're above $80 or so, Can you also give me certain types of flutes? (Like what they're made of and how much they cost?)
Also, Does anyone know where you can get lessons?
.... to avoid nasty cticism like i have in the past online, YES, i'm a Native American.
whats to get nasty about? you want to buy a flute. now, if you were looking to buy a indian "costume" or get all the non existent freebies we supposedly get..yeah native people tend to get sick of the lies.
you should look for a flute maker near you. the price of a flute depends a lot on the wood used. i know a flute maker who will make one out of pine for people who really want a flute but can't afford a cedar one. if you are interested, i can give you his email address.
see we aren't just bitchy by nature..we are pushed to it.

My family makes Native American Style flutes as a hobby and we are wondering how the original flutes were made and what tools where used.
It sometimes depends on the tribe as to the material. Generally they're made of either wood, bone, bark, and even pottery. A few reed instruments existed with wood and bark reeds, as well.

I am in Junior Miss and need suggestions of songs and websites to find free flute music. I need help on picking a good song for junior miss that a junior in high school would be able to play.
Jimmyr.com has a lot of different Mario Bros-related music. The Mario Theme Song is great, but it's a little bit difficult. Although, it's really fun once you get used to it. It took me about a month to learn. I've been playing for 4 years, in case that affects anything.
Good luck!

I am thinking of learning flute.
For starting, I don't want to buy a really expensive flute, would prefer cheaper priced and of decent quality.
Please recommend, which brand and which model, Thanks!
Some good brands are Yamaha, Jupiter, Gemeinhardt. Armstrong and Blessing. Although some say the Blessings and Jupiter are bad Flutes because they require lots of repairs. But I play on a Yamaha/ Blessings and my students play on Jupiter and I have had no trouble with either! But I would go with the Yamaha if I had to choose one for a beginner!

I am a middle school band director and would like to buy a flute. I know the main brands but I do not want to spend a lot of money. Should I bother with a student flute or look for a professional one?
I am a professional flutist and teacher and competition judge in NY - and taught middle school for 34 years. Gemeinhardt and Armstrong are AWFUL - maybe 25 years ago they were OK, but they are at the END of the list now. Look at a used Yamaha in the 300 or 400 series. A Pearl, a Jupiter, (a diMedici if you can find a 1000 series used!), or an Emerson will stand you in good stead. You should be able to find these USED for well under a grand. If your budget - and playing possibilities - are higher, then consider and Avanti (not out yet - soon . . ) or an Azumi. The big thing now is Big Names making step-up flutes, with a great headjoint, and a plated body. Deal; with a real FLUTE house - Jeff Weissman in NYC, or Carolyn Nussbaum, or even Flute World. J.L. Smith is a possibility, or Phil Unger in NYC. Do not get a flute from a big music warehouse place - you know what they are - because they sell things As they arrive from the factory - not in perfect adjustment. Your students rely on you to set a good example - you need to be well set up.

I love Michael Flatley's flute music, and I would love to know what flute(s) he plays.
At the moment I have a Buffet&Crampon flute but I'm looking for a better make. I was wondering what kind of flute Michael Flatley plays, as it sounds as if it has excellent quality.
That flute isn't the same as the one we call a concert flute. He plays what's commonly called "Irish Flute" and is properly called a simple system flute.

You can get close to that sound on a concert flute with a wooden headjoint (such as Bigio) and even closer with a full wooden flute. But, the simple system they use for that Irish music is not in the same scale as our concert flute and it has a different bore design - we can never get the same sound on a metal concert flute.
That's why I own a bunch of different flutes. ?
